Hello, I Love You : The Doors

::I removed all the doors to our love, so you can’t lock yourself away from me. But I didn’t stop there. I also replaced the doors with metal detectors, so I could fondle you more efficiently, like the highly trained professionals do who run airport security.

Before I found my house, I found my doors.  At 8' tall, with lovely arches, there are two French door sets and a single door with two peek-a-boo inserts.  The larger of the French doors open to my patio.  I haven't decided where the other set will be used, but I am considering having them inserted into the street side of the patio.  The single door was used for the bathroom.  These cedar doors held up rather well over their 100 year life.

My carpenter, Pepe, primarily focused on recreating the bottom portions that suffered rot, sanded them down to bring out the brightness of the wood.  He made the wooden frames and screens, and I selected the appropriate hardware.  When it was time to select a stain or paint color, I decided to have the doors sealed with beeswax, reducing toxins and annual upkeep.  All I have to do is polish them with a chamois cloth.

Aren't they beautiful!  When I saw Pepe and Manuel holding them in place, my heart stopped.  I had been living a vagabond life for nearly two years.  The sight of those doors meant I was indeed home!

Create the life you want!

Hi Benne.
Love all those Doors(yours and the musical ones) although jazz is my first choice. Came to Merida 3 weeks ago sight unseen as part of a life imitates art plot that I'm just beginning to understand the Tao has in store for me. Besides your blog thanks for the links to Here in Havana and 4 kids 20 suitcases and Whosh out the door. Say hello to Ellen Fields for me. She's been part of the plot that has drawn me here.

Sight unseen? Wow! I think you are the first expat I've met who moved here that way. Thanks for the post on the interview. Saw that last night. Enjoy the ride!
