Tom: Are the bags ready to go? The taxi is here to take us to the airport.

Martha: Yes!  It will be great to go home to see our family and friends, but I'm homesick already.

Tom: Yeah!  Wait, which home is HOME?

As someone who spends almost equal amounts of time in Europe, California, and Texas, and maybe more in Europe, I totally understand this short piece.

I never permanently left this home for that home and still I feel adrift, without a home at all, when for the moment there are two.

Me too Calmity. I've set down roots in Mexico while still having a home in the US. I feel a confusion over where I really am home and as Lynette says, if I really have a home anymore.
I'm more like a potted plant now with shallow roots that I can pack up and carry with me where ever I go.

I have to admit that the idea of two homes is very appealing to me. In fact, realizing that I can be mobile has helped my adjustment. Before living here in Merida, I would dream about Mexico. I felt an intense longing. Ever so often, with less frequency and intensity, I have a similar ache for Austin and New Orleans. I'm surprised that I don't miss those homes more deeply.

Thanks for sharing everyone!

As a newbie here, I can totally relate to this. I sometimes use the word "home" and I am quickly corrected by my partner that this is home.

Hi, Chad. I need a little corrective prescription myself. Each touch we add to our homes here help ground us to this new place. Shopping for treasures helps a lot!
